Our Patron - Geoff Boycott - A Cricketing Hero

Geoffrey Boycott OBE Born: October 21st 1940

Geoffrey Boycott is a legend not only in his home country England, but all over the world. He was recently voted the most recognisable non-Indian in India. He has cemented his place as one of the best English batsmen of all time scoring 8,114 runs in 108 Test matches over 18 years.

Despite retiring over twenty years ago, Boycott is still well known to cricket fans around the world as a commentator. Another feature of Boycott's commentaries was his pre-match pitch report, in which he would stick a key into the wicket and assess its qualities (moisture and hardness). However due to a change in the cricket laws, this is no longer permitted.

He discussed their strengths, weaknesses and prospects with humour and authority. Geoff also spoke about his time in front of the stumps and about the upcoming Ashes test between England and Australia, followed by questions from the floor.

Everyone's attention was on this world famous Yorkshireman as he enthralled everybody with the depth of his cricketing knowledge and sharp wit. Just listening to Geoff speaking so passionately about his life and cricket was inspiring. His continued support is a great inspiration for all those involved with the project.
